Mykolaiv region's foreign trade: exports down, imports up

In the first four months of this year, Mykolaiv region reduced its exports of goods and increased its imports. As a result, the region has a «negative balance».

This is evidenced by the data of the Main Department of Statistics in Mykolaiv region, according to NikVesti.

Exports totalled almost $206 million, only 61.7% of the level of the same period last year. At the same time, imports increased to $225.3 million, or 152.4% compared to the same period in 2024.

Thus, the negative balance of foreign trade is $19.5 million, while last year the region had a significant positive balance of almost $186 million. The import-export coverage ratio dropped to 0.91, while in 2024 it was 2.26.

The region's exports continue to be dominated by grains and oilseeds, as well as vegetable oil. At the same time, exports of these goods have declined significantly. In particular, exports of grains dropped by more than 37%, seeds and oilseeds by 30.6%, and fats and oils by almost 44%.

In contrast, imports grew for all major items. Supplies of electric machines grew particularly strongly, by more than 320%. In addition, land transport, reactors, and machinery.

In total, in the first third of 2025, Mykolaiv region traded with 97 countries. At the same time, the European Union remains the region's main trading partner. Thus, 53.6% of all goods were exported to the EU countries, and more than 38% were imported from them. Spain, Italy, and Turkey are the biggest buyers of Mykolaiv's goods. The main importers are China, the United States, and the United Kingdom.

It is worth reminding that in the first two months of 2025, enterprises in Mykolaiv region exported goods worth more than $90 million, while imports reached almost $110 million.
